Vancouver, BC – July 15, 2024 – Silver Sponsored by Amber Financial and hosted by the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation, the 39th annual S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Walk with the Dragon took place at Stanley Park in Vancouver. Thousands of participants gathered for this significant charitable event, raising over CAD 320,000 to support essential community services.
The Walk with the Dragon, which began in 1986, is one of Vancouver’s largest summer community fundraising events. This year’s event successfully raised over CAD 320,000, with all proceeds going directly to support programs for families, youth, women, and seniors.
As a major event within Vancouver’s Chinese community, the Walk with the Dragon consistently garners support from all levels of government and community leaders. As in previous years, distinguished guests performed the eye-dotting ceremony for the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Golden Dragon. The dragon then came to life, leading hundreds of teams on a grand procession along Lost Lagoon for the 3 km and 7 km charity walks.
The event ran from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the day. The Walk with the Dragon features North America’s longest 100-foot dragon, carried by 40 martial artists leading walkers and teams along the 3 km and 7 km routes through the park. After the walk, the fairgrounds opened to the public, offering live music, entertainment, activities, giveaways, prizes, carnival games, and photo booths.
S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation Chairman Jason Lam remarked, “Organizing this historic event year after year since 1986 requires extensive planning and collaboration. Without the steadfast support of our donors, sponsors, and vendors, the 39th Walk with the Dragon would not have been possible. Over the past 30 years, this event has raised over CAD 12 million for S.U.C.C.E.S.S.”
S.U.C.C.E.S.S. President Doug Purdie highlighted that S.U.C.C.E.S.S., founded in 1973, is one of Canada’s largest social service agencies and a multicultural non-profit charity organization. It provides a wide range of programs and services to promote a sense of belonging, health, and independence among people from all walks of life in Canada. The programs and services primarily focus on settlement services, English training, employment and entrepreneurship, family, youth and senior planning, health education, community development, elder care, and affordable housing. S.U.C.C.E.S.S. has seen a significant increase in the demand for mental health counseling services, which also require funding support.
Amber Financial organized a team of over 20 employees to participate enthusiastically in the charity walk. Under the Amber Financial banner, the company team joined other participants along the 3 km and 7 km routes. United in purpose, they supported S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’s essential programs, demonstrating the company’s commitment to social responsibility and the employees’ passion for public welfare.
Amber Financial will continue to uphold the spirit of serving society and giving back to the community by actively participating in and supporting various charitable activities. We believe that through collective efforts, we can bring more warmth and hope to the Chinese community. We are grateful to S.U.C.C.E.S.S. for providing this platform, which allows us to contribute to the community, and we appreciate the enthusiastic support from all participants.
